I know we go through scripting in EXSTORE. I wanted to see if anything could be modified with this image and evaluate my script. This is my Day 1.

Initial Strength, Mobility, or Pain Acupuncture Consultation Framework

Step 1: Build Rapport

Patient Walks Into the Clinic

Hello, are you (Patient's Name)?

My name is (Acupuncturist's Name). It's nice to meet you.

(Learn their name before they arrive so you can greet them confidently without looking at a chart.)

Before the Visit

  • Initial paperwork should be completed online whenever possible.

  • Have consent forms printed and ready.

  • For pain patients, provide a body diagram to mark today's areas of concern. This creates a visual baseline that can be compared during future re-evaluations.

"There are just a few consent forms to complete before we begin. Please mark the areas you're experiencing on this body diagram, and we'll go over everything together once we're in the treatment room."

Getting Comfortable

How did you hear about our clinic?

(Helps track which marketing efforts are working.)

Is this your first acupuncture treatment?

Yes

"Great. I'll explain everything as we go, and if you have any questions along the way, just let me know."

No

"Perfect. If you have any questions or notice anything different from previous treatments you've had elsewhere, feel free to ask."

After collecting the paperwork:

"Did you need to use the restroom before we begin?"

(This helps establish a routine before treatment begins.)

"Alright, let's get started."

Escort the patient to the treatment room.

Step 2: Initial Consultation

Use the body diagram as a guide while discussing their condition.

"I'd like to ask you a few questions first so I can better understand what's been going on. After that we'll do some mobility and strength testing to identify what structures are involved, then I'll explain what I find before we begin treatment."

"Does that sound good?"

Event

Was there an event or injury that caused this, or did it gradually develop?

Length

How long has this been going on?

Previous Care

What have you tried to improve this?

Have you received any previous treatment for it?

Medications

Do you take any medications for this issue?

Do you feel they have been helping?

Sleep

Does this problem affect your sleep?

How often?

(Improved sleep is often one of the earliest indicators that healing is occurring.)

Pain

How would you rate today's discomfort on a scale of 0-10?

(Confirm the score if it was already marked on the body diagram.)

Functional Limitations

What activities make it worse?

What seems to help?

Are there any activities you've stopped doing because of this problem?

Step 3: Physical Examination

"Now I'd like to see how your body is moving."

Explain that you will evaluate:

Mobility

Strength

Stability

Movement patterns

Perform your examination (EXSTORE or your preferred evaluation system).

As you test, educate the patient.

Explain:

Areas with limited mobility

Muscles testing weak

Areas compensating

How those findings relate to their symptoms

This helps patients understand why you're recommending treatment.

Step 4: Prepare for Treatment

"Do you have any questions before we begin?"

Since this is your first treatment, here's what to expect.

"You may feel a small pinch or tingling sensation as the needles are inserted. After that, most people feel comfortable and many even fall asleep during treatment."

"If anything feels uncomfortable at any point, just let me know. I can always adjust or remove a needle."

"Alright, let's get you started."

Step 5: Perform Treatment

Carry out your treatment plan.

Continue educating throughout the visit when appropriate.

Step 6: Post-Treatment Reassessment

(Return to the room.)

"Welcome back. How was everything?"

Remove the needles.

"Take your time sitting up."

"When you're ready, I'd like you to walk around and test the movements that were bothering you before treatment."

Recheck:

Mobility

Stability

Strength

Discuss any immediate changes.

Step 7: Treatment Recommendation

Review today's findings.

"Today we were able to improve some of your mobility and muscle stability. While I can't directly measure your pain, I can measure your body's mobility and strength. As those improve, I typically find the body becomes less protective, movement and stability becomes easier, and pain begins to decrease."

"Since this has been an ongoing issue, I recommend we start with an initial evaluation period of six visits. That gives us enough time to build on today's progress and evaluate how your body responds."

"Research has shown that treatment tends to be most effective when visits are performed twice per week for three weeks. After your sixth visit, we'll repeat your mobility and strength testing, compare it to today's baseline, discuss your progress, and determine the best next step together. If maintenance care is appropriate, we can discuss that at your re-evaluation."

"Our six-visit care plan is (Package Price). It includes six treatments for the price of five. Individual visits are also available for (Single Visit Price) each."

Pause.

Allow the patient time to respond.

If they agree:

"Excellent. Let's get your next appointments scheduled while we have your baseline fresh so we can build on today's progress."

Confirm payment, process the visit or package, and schedule the remaining appointments.

My current pricing:

$120/single visits

$600 (6 visit packages)

Does anyone have experience treating spasmodic dystonia of the vocal cords? I just saw this patient for the first time. She's a singer and speaker. Gradual onset after COVID or after the COVID shot. She's not sure. I treated the tight muscles of the SCM as well as points for the vagus nerve. Then in prone did a perfusion treatment of her neck from UB 10 to T-1. I suggested her seeing a neurologist to rule out Parkinsons. She's also on a statin for high calcium (not for high cholesterol) She's 67 and has a healthy lifestyle. Thanks in advance!

🚨 New Webinar/Lab for July!

What do you do when a clinical case leaves you scratching your head?

This webinar explores the clinical mindset needed to navigate challenging and complex cases without becoming overwhelmed. Rather than falling back on old habits or ineffective approaches, you’ll learn a structured progression of clinical thinking that can guide your decision-making, no matter how difficult the presentation may seem.

The goal isn’t to have all the answers. It’s to develop a reliable framework for thinking through the problem, staying adaptable, and moving forward with confidence when the case in front of you doesn’t fit neatly into the box.

Live Lab afterwards! Resistration is required.
